5. Diddy Kong, Super Smash Brothers Brawl
One of the most versatile characters in any fighting game, Diddy is a glorified fighting character with the ability to trip his opponents using self-generated banana peels. Using bananas as the basis for his offense, Diddy can perform theatrical, intense, and super effective combos on his opponents, often defeating even the most skilled performers with a touch of surprising ease. Besides his bananas, Diddy also has one of the most effective “recovery” moves in the game, utilizing a Boba-Fett-Styled jetpack that literally sends him flying.
4. Fox, Super Smash Brothers Melee
The beloved protagonist from the Star Fox series, Fox is one of the most popular characters in the entire Super Smash Brothers franchise. In Melee, Fox has the ability to use the fastest attack in the game, the “shine,” in order to stun opponents, generating fast percentage and an endless amount of combination moves thereafter. Additionally, his animated laser can rack up damage very quickly. He’s also super fast, and “newbie” characters may have difficulty controlling him at first, but once he is mastered, there are few who can compete consistently on his level.
3. Pikachu, Super Smash Brothers 64
Widely regarded as the best character from the original Super Smash Brothers video game, Pikachu is fast, powerful, has very tactical electricity attacks, and is even the very first character I ever played in the franchise (which is, of course, a HUGE incentive for anyone to try him 🙂 ). His “Down B makes lightning come from the sky” attack is one of the most iconic images from the series, and certainly one of the most powerful attacks in the game as well.
2. Meta Knight, Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Considered by many purists as an unfairly powerful player, Meta Knight is just about unstoppable in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. His tornado attack can bulldoze through nearly any move by any opponent, his recovery attack is one of the fastest, most powerful moves any character holds, and yes, he can even fly. In a game where no other character can actually fly, how are you supposed to beat Meta Knight? The answer – you don’t.
1.Marth, Super Smash Brothers Melee
I was tempted to put Meta Knight in the number one position due to his absurdly high level of power, but I am simply going to have to give the nod here to Marth. A skilled Marth has an endless array of combinations he can perform with his very long broadsword, as well as a grab that is among the fastest and far-reaching in the entire game. Although the learning curve for Marth takes longer than learning Meta Knight, almost all “tournament” enthusiasts of the game know that a great Marth is simply unbeatable in a one versus one matchup.
