There are some pretty big countries in this world but we’re not talking landmass here. With an estimated 7.2 billion people roaming around the planet the numbers on this list aren’t hard to swallow. It’s the huge jump between the top eight and top two largest countries in the world by population that’s going to make you take a second look.
Without further ado, here are the top largest 10 countries in the whole world by population:
10. Japan
Japan cracks the number 10 spot on our list with a population of 127 million people – a soon-to-be realized modest amount of people on our list. However, it’s a lot of people for an entire country that’s smaller than the state of California. Out of its 127 million residents 50,000 of them are over 100 years old and adult diapers are sold more than baby diapers because the birth rate is so low.
9. Russia

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Russia slides into a spot on this list given that it is such a massive country, spanning 6.602 million square miles.
To put that into perspective, Russia is actually bigger than Pluto.
Russia is the largest country on our list in terms of land mass but it only made it to the number nine spot due to its population size of 146 million people. It’s estimated that there are 10 million more women than men in Russia.
Additionally, 25% of Russians dies before the age of 55 due to heavy Vodka consumption. An interesting tidbit: one-third of the entire population of Russia believes that the sun revolves around the earth.
8. Bangladesh
Bangladesh is another small country on the list in terms of land mass but large in terms of population. There are 158 million people in the country to be exact. With a country that is only 56,977 square miles in size it results in a population density of about 3,000 people per square mile.
Talk about crowded!
Ninety-five percent of the population of Bangladesh is made up of farmers. Despite most of the population being involved in agriculture, the majority of the country’s revenue comes from the export of garments.
7. Nigeria

Nigeria slides into the number seven slot on the largest countries in the world list with a population of 183 million people. It is the most populated country in all of Africa which means that one in every seven Africans is Nigerian.
The next African country to even come close in size in terms of population is Ethiopia with 84 million people – which is about half of Nigeria’s population.
Another interesting fact about Nigeria is that it is also known for having the largest diversity of butterflies in the world. It must be cool to be known for both your human and butterfly population.
Update your app!!!
Nice job you guys are doing here, but you guys made a mistake in terms of Nigeria’s popuplation, cause Nigeria is not up to 183 million people. Nigeria is 177 million people, so get it right ok. Anyways good job.
